PaintingPosted by Matthew (Singapore, Singapore) on 3 August 2007 in Abstract & Conceptual and Portfolio. Photo of two paintings juxtaposed in the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in Washington DC. Exhibit on the Cherokees and British, prior to American independence. Juxtaposition is interesting: the painting on the right is the earlier, by a British painter showing British military dominance in the background and a British officer in a commanding pose. The left painting, by a later American, copies the pose but reverses the civilisations, with an upstanding Cherokee chief, and Cherokees warriors beating back the British in the background.
